Apple accelerates India expansion with new stores and local iPhone manufacturing surge

Apple enhances its presence in India through retail expansion, aggressive financing, and local assembly, boosting sales and market share in the country’s growing premium smartphone sector.

Apple is stepping up its India push with a broader retail network, more aggressive financing and deeper local assembly as it tries to turn the country’s fast-growing premium phone market into a bigger source of revenue. According to Bloomberg News, the company has also expanded purchase incentives such as no-cost instalment plans, cash-back offers and trade-in deals to make iPhones more affordable for buyers in a market where taxes and other costs can push prices above US levels.

The retail expansion has been central to that effort. Apple now has stores in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Pune and Noida, giving it a stronger physical presence in a market long dominated by multi-brand outlets and online sellers. MacRumors reported in December 2025 that Apple opened its fifth store in India at DLF Mall in Noida, while Business Standard and other Indian outlets have said the company is preparing another Mumbai location and may be looking at Hyderabad next.

The strategy appears to be paying off. MacDailyNews said Apple’s annual sales in India passed $10 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2026, with iPhones driving most of the revenue. It added that Apple’s share of smartphone shipments has risen to about 10% in some recent periods, up from roughly 1.5% 10 years ago, reflecting continued growth even as the wider market has softened.

Apple is also using India as a production base. The company now assembles about a quarter of its global iPhones there, according to the report, with about 55 million units produced in 2025. For the first time, the full iPhone 17 line was made locally from launch, underscoring the company’s effort to strengthen supply chains, support its “Made in India” branding and reduce reliance on China. Apple’s own India shopping pages say customers can use EMI and no-cost EMI plans, instant cash-back on select cards and trade-in offers to lower the cost of a new device.
