LPG consumers face fuel access risks if Aadhaar e-KYC not completed by August 16, 2026

Households using Indane, Bharat Gas or HP Gas must complete Aadhaar-based e-KYC by August 16, 2026, or risk losing access to domestic LPG rates, amid confusion over the deadline and process options.

LPG households using Indane, Bharat Gas or HP Gas have been told to finish Aadhaar-based e-KYC by August 16, 2026, or risk losing access to cylinders at domestic rates until the verification is done. Zee Business reported that there has been some confusion over whether the cut-off is August 15 or August 16, but Indian Oil has told customers to treat August 16 as the relevant date, making prompt action the safer option.

The requirement is designed to confirm a customer’s identity and help ensure that subsidies reach eligible users, especially beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. According to the PMUY website, biometric Aadhaar authentication is compulsory for those households, and the process can be completed through an LPG distributor or, where available, by face authentication on a self-service basis. Customers who have already completed e-KYC do not need to repeat it.

Missing the deadline does not appear to mean an automatic permanent cancellation of every connection. Indian Oil’s customer message says the immediate consequence is that a consumer may become ineligible for domestic rates until the verification is completed, while some reports have referred to temporary suspension in certain cases. For PMUY beneficiaries, that could also affect access to the government’s subsidy, which for 2026-27 has been set at Rs 300 per 14.2 kg cylinder for the first four refills in the year.

Customers can complete the process through the relevant company’s mobile app: IndianOil ONE for Indane, Hello BPCL for Bharat Gas and HP Pay for HP Gas. The apps direct users to the e-KYC option, where they can consent to Aadhaar authentication and finish face verification through Aadhaar FaceRD. Those without a smartphone, or anyone facing technical problems, can visit a local distributor or gas agency for help. HPCL’s consumer pages also point users to grievance and helpline channels, including its LPG emergency number, for further assistance.
