India extends LPG e-KYC deadline amid widespread consumer compliance efforts

Domestic LPG customers in India have been given an extended deadline of August 31 to complete Aadhaar-based e-KYC amid efforts by oil companies to tighten identity verification and ensure continued supply.

Indian Oil, Hindustan Petroleum and Bharat Petroleum have given domestic LPG customers until August 31 to complete mandatory e-KYC, after many households missed the earlier August 23 cut-off. According to Business Today, the oil marketing companies are pressing consumers to finish Aadhaar-based verification so they can continue receiving refills at domestic rates.

The verification can be done either at an LPG distributor’s outlet or through the relevant company’s mobile app. Business Today said Indane customers can use the IndianOil ONE app with Aadhaar FaceRD, while Bharat Gas users can complete the process through Hello BPCL and HP Gas customers through HP Pay or Aadhaar FaceRD. The wider push reflects an effort by the state-run suppliers to tighten identity checks across their customer base.

The scale of the exercise is substantial. Business Today reported that India has about 32.97 crore active domestic LPG consumers, including roughly 1.26 crore in Telangana alone. In that state, nearly 82% of consumers had completed e-KYC by August 25, after thousands were said to be finishing the process each day in the run-up to the deadline.

Even so, consumers who still have not complied have been told not to panic. A senior oil industry official told The Hindu that a message will be sent to those who remain pending, and another official said refills will continue after August 31, though the cadence of supply for non-compliant customers may depend on further instructions from the Petroleum Ministry. For now, there has been no formal communication on any restriction, but officials are urging households to complete verification quickly to avoid uncertainty.
