The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation has upgraded its portal to offer online management of key member services, reducing the need for regional office visits and simplifying claims processing with a centralised, self-service platform.
The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation has moved a series of core member services onto its revamped portal, allowing subscribers to manage most routine provident fund tasks online rather than visiting a regional office. The update brings together functions that were previously spread across multiple screens and is aimed at making the system easier to use for millions of account holders.
According to reports by Livemint and People Matters, the portal now lets members activate their Universal Account Number, generate one directly if needed, update KYC details, check balances through the e-passbook, file e-nominations and submit withdrawal claims online. The claims covered include final settlement through Form 19, pension withdrawal benefit through Form 10-C and part withdrawal through Form 31.
The new system also reduces the role of employers in routine claims, provided a member’s UAN is active, Aadhaar is seeded and the bank account with IFSC is verified. EPFO has said PAN seeding is required for final settlement requests, while the platform checks the date of exit and applies a two-month waiting period after a worker leaves a PF-covered job. Moneycontrol reported that the upgraded version also adds service history and transfer features, making it easier to track past employment and link older PF accounts to a current UAN.
The overhaul is part of EPFO’s move to a centralised CITES 2.01 architecture, under which claims are no longer tied to a particular regional office. The organisation says KYC-compliant claims of up to Rs 5 lakh can be auto-processed, online queries can be handled within the system and payments can be routed centrally for same-day credit. It has also said interest will be calculated until the date payment is authorised, a change intended to make the whole process more transparent and self-service.
