Central Bank of India offers competitive fixed deposit rates amid stable monetary policy outlook

The Central Bank of India remains competitive in its fixed deposit offerings, with attractive rates for short-term and medium-term investors, amid a stable monetary policy environment and cautious rate outlook for savers.

Central Bank of India is offering fixed deposit rates that remain competitive in a market where public sector lenders are still trying to attract savers with stable returns. According to financial services sites tracking the bank’s latest tariff, its deposits run from seven days to 10 years, with senior citizens generally receiving an extra 0.50 percentage point over the standard rate.

For a 24-month fixed deposit, the bank is currently paying 6.25% to most customers and 6.75% to those aged 60 and above, provided the deposit is below ₹3 crore. That puts the two-year option among the stronger medium-term offerings from a state-owned lender, especially for savers who want certainty rather than market-linked risk.

The highest headline return in the bank’s recent menu appears to be its 444-day deposit, which BankBazaar says offers 6.70% for regular customers and 7.20% for senior citizens. CodeForBanks and other rate trackers say the bank’s longer tenures, including five years and above, are generally priced lower than the special mid-term scheme, which is common when banks use select tenures to draw fresh money.

The broader backdrop is the Reserve Bank of India’s policy stance. Informalnewz said the central bank held the repo rate steady again after cutting it by 0.25 percentage points to 5.25% in December 2025, a reminder that deposit yields often move in step with monetary policy. For savers, that means the current rates may not last if borrowing costs or funding conditions change, so investors should check the bank’s latest schedule before locking in money for two years or more.
