Bank of India clarifies fake KYC update alert circulating online

The Bank of India and RBI have issued clarifications against a false notification falsely claiming that accounts will be blocked unless customers update Aadhaar and PAN-linked KYC details, urging users to rely solely on official communication channels.

A fake notice claiming to be from Bank of India and warning customers that their accounts would be blocked unless Aadhaar and PAN-linked KYC details were updated has been flagged as fraudulent, according to a fact check issued by the Press Information Bureau on August 11, 2026. The alert has been circulating online and falsely urges users to download a “BOI Mobile Digital” app to complete the process.

The Reserve Bank of India said it has not issued any such notice, while Bank of India also moved to clarify that the circulating message is not genuine. The bank said the image and accompanying claims were fabricated and urged customers to ignore the warning.

Both institutions advised customers to rely only on official channels for any KYC-related update, including the bank’s website, branches and verified communication platforms. They also warned people not to trust unsolicited messages, links or apps asking for personal or banking details.
