Tamil Nadu police bust Rs 30 crore online investment scam involving false digital currency

Police in Dindigul district have arrested three individuals over a deceptive online investment scheme that defrauded over 15,000 investors of more than Rs 30 crore, using fake digital currency accounts and manipulated app data.

Police in Tamil Nadu’s Dindigul district have arrested three people, including a woman, over an alleged online investment scam that is said to have cheated more than 15,000 investors out of over Rs 30 crore, according to local police.

Investigators said the group used an investment app to entice people with promises of turning Rs 50,000 into double the amount in a short period. Police allege the suspects created false accounts, displayed fabricated digital currency credits and showed manipulated account details to make the scheme appear legitimate.

When investors tried to withdraw their money, however, the funds did not arrive in their accounts. The app was then shut down, leaving users unable to recover their deposits. Following complaints from victims, the crime branch registered a case against 10 people and arrested Ramesh, Vijay and Anitha, while officers continue to search for the remaining suspects.
