A surge in complaints in Turkey highlights growing frustration with major streaming platforms over billing disputes, challenging cancellation processes, and access problems, amid reports of unauthorised charges and phishing scams.
Millions of subscribers now rely on streaming services for entertainment, but a growing number of complaints suggest that the convenience of digital platforms is being matched by rising frustration over billing, cancellation and access. In Turkey, users have accused services including Netflix, Disney+, Exxen, Gain and TOD TV of making cancellations unnecessarily difficult, continuing to take money from cards without clear consent and leaving customers stranded when problems arise.
Consumer complaints gathered on the Şikayet Var platform in recent days point to a familiar pattern: unexpected charges, subscription pages that appear to loop without completing cancellation and customer-service channels that seem to lead nowhere. Some users say they were billed by services they had never joined, while others say charges continued long after they believed they had ended their memberships. Separately, phishing campaigns targeting Netflix and Disney+ customers have also been reported, with fraudulent emails designed to trick users into handing over payment details.
Exxen users have complained of unauthorised automatic payments and difficulty ending subscriptions, according to reports compiled by Şikayet Var. Disney+ users, meanwhile, have described problems with cancellation when their subscriptions are tied to bundled or third-party packages, or when billing issues or account confusion prevent the cancellation option from appearing as expected. Guidance from Disney support materials says deleting an account does not cancel a subscription and that users must end the subscription through the service used to sign up in the first place.
Some of the most common grievances also involve access problems after payment. TOD TV customers have said student packages were not activated properly because of technical errors and phone-number registration issues, leaving them unable to watch for weeks. Gain users have reported being blocked by messages suggesting another viewer is already active, while Disney+ subscribers have complained about long, unskippable adverts despite paying for a premium package. The companies did not immediately respond to the allegations in the lead report.
