RBL Bank launches higher fixed-deposit rates for senior and super senior citizens with flexible income options

RBL Bank introduces enhanced fixed-deposit schemes for seniors, offering up to 7.95% interest with flexible payouts and lower early withdrawal charges, aiming to attract retired savers seeking stable income options.

RBL Bank is offering higher fixed-deposit rates for older savers through two age-based schemes that aim to provide steadier income than market-linked investments. For customers aged 60 to below 80, the Wealth Secure deposit adds 0.50 percentage points to the bank’s standard fixed-deposit rate, while Akshay Nidhi gives those aged 80 and above an extra 0.75 percentage points, according to RBL Bank’s interest-rate page, where the rates are listed as effective from 24 September 2025. The bank says the top rate for senior citizens is 7.70%, and the highest rate for super senior citizens is 7.95%, both on tenures of 18 months to 36 months.

The rate structure is tiered across a wide range of maturities, starting at 4.00% for senior citizens and 4.25% for super senior citizens on deposits of 7 to 14 days, and rising to the peak band of 18 months to 36 months before easing on longer tenures. RBL Bank’s published table shows rates of 7.50% and 7.75% for deposits of 365 days to 500 days and 501 days to less than 18 months, then 7.70% and 7.95% at the highest slab. For much longer placements, the bank lists 7.20% for senior citizens and 7.45% for super senior citizens on deposits of 60 months to 120 months.

Beyond the headline rates, the schemes are designed to suit retirees who want predictable cash flow. RBL Bank says interest can be paid monthly, quarterly or at maturity, subject to its rules, and that depositors may access an overdraft of up to 90% of the principal. It also says senior and super senior customers are exempt from the usual 1% premature-withdrawal charge, although interest is adjusted to the rate applicable for the time the money actually stayed invested. The bank’s own blog describes the product as a higher-yielding option for older savers seeking stability with relatively low risk.

The wider market context suggests RBL Bank is broadly in line with other comparably priced fixed deposits, though its super senior offering stands out for the extra premium. Paisabazaar and BankBazaar both note that the bank has recently updated its rates and that the senior-citizen add-on remains 0.50 percentage points, with the best slab still concentrated in the 18-month to 3-year window. That means the appeal of these deposits depends less on headline marketing and more on matching tenure, payout choice and liquidity needs to the investor’s retirement income plan.
