Prudential Singapore has issued a warning about increasing impersonation scams by fraudsters posing as company staff and financial officials, prompting calls for heightened public caution amid broader industry threats.
Prudential Singapore has warned the public about scammers posing as company staff or financial representatives and contacting people by phone or WhatsApp with claims that their personal details were misused to buy insurance policies. In its advisory on Aug. 11, the insurer said the fraudsters were using fake policy documents and fake officials to pressure victims into handing over genuine personal information or transferring money.
The company said both customers and non-customers had reported receiving the bogus calls and messages. It also said its systems remain secure and that there has been no leakage of confidential information, while stressing that it will never ask customers to make payments through links sent in security emails or to share log-in details.
Prudential Singapore told customers to rely on its PRUServices portal or mobile app to check policy information and said its corporate office does not use WhatsApp for official communication. It advised anyone who believes they may have been targeted, or who may have disclosed personal or financial information, to contact the police immediately.
The warning fits a broader pattern of insurance- and finance-related impersonation scams in Singapore. AIA Singapore, NTUC and the General Insurance Association have all issued similar alerts, while the Singapore Police Force and the Monetary Authority of Singapore said in March that at least six cases involving impersonation of MAS officials, NTUC representatives and staff from Income Insurance and UnionPay had led to losses of at least S$1.7 million. In April, police and MAS also warned about another wave of impersonation scams that had already produced losses of more than $614,000.
