A review highlights a select few premium debit cards providing complimentary lounge visits and travel perks, challenging the traditional dominance of credit cards in premium travel amenities.
Airport lounge access is often marketed as a credit card perk, but several debit cards now offer similar treatment for travellers who want comfort without carrying revolving debt. A review compiled by Paisabazaar highlights a small group of premium debit cards that provide complimentary lounge entry, along with extra benefits such as cashback, rewards and travel insurance.
At the top of the list is the HDFC Bank Infiniti Debit Card, which offers 16 complimentary lounge visits a year, capped at four per quarter, according to HDFC Bank. The card carries an annual fee of ₹2,500, though the fee is waived for the first year for Infiniti Banking Programme members and may be waived later if spending thresholds are met. HDFC Bank also says the card includes 5% cashback on transactions through PayZapp and SmartBuy, Taj vouchers worth ₹7,500 each quarter for qualifying spend, and eight complimentary golf games a year.
ICICI Bank’s Sapphiro Debit Card is another premium option aimed at frequent spenders and travellers. ICICI Bank says the card gives four complimentary lounge visits each quarter, provided the cardholder meets a spending requirement in the previous quarter. The bank lists a joining fee of ₹2,499 plus GST and an annual fee of the same amount, alongside domestic reward points, ticket discounts through BookMyShow and INOX, and other features such as higher withdrawal limits and fuel surcharge relief at selected outlets.
IDFC First Bank’s Wealth Debit Card stands out because it has no joining or annual fee, while still including lounge access. According to the bank, the card offers six complimentary domestic lounge visits each quarter, split between the cardholder and a companion, as well as two international lounge visits every quarter. It also comes with accident and travel-related insurance covers, plus protection against lost card liability and fraud.
Axis Bank also offers two debit cards with lounge benefits. The Burgundy Debit Card provides three complimentary lounge visits per quarter, subject to minimum spending in the previous three months, while the Wealth Debit Card offers the same quarterly allowance if spending conditions are met. Axis Bank says both cards add perks such as dining discounts, entertainment offers and insurance cover, making them more appealing to customers who want travel benefits bundled with everyday banking.
