Karnataka Bank launches a new Capital Gains Account Scheme offering flexible options for taxpayers to preserve tax benefits while managing unutilised capital gains, aligning with evolving banking and tax regulations.
Karnataka Bank has introduced the Capital Gains Account Scheme, widening the options available to taxpayers who need a compliant place to park unutilised capital gains while they line up eligible reinvestments. The bank said the move is aimed at people who have realised gains from the sale of qualifying assets but cannot complete the required reinvestment within the statutory deadline. Under the scheme, deposits made within the prescribed period can help customers preserve tax benefits, provided they remain within the rules of the Income Tax Act.
The offering comes in two forms: Capital Gains Account-A, structured as a savings deposit for more flexible access, and Capital Gains Account-B, a term deposit designed for longer parking of funds. Industry summaries of the launch said the scheme can be used for eligible reinvestments such as buying or constructing residential property, along with other investments allowed under tax law.
A bank statement quoted managing director and chief executive Raghavendra S Bhat as saying the launch reflects a focus on customer-centred banking and on giving savers compliant tools for tax planning and investment decisions. The bank also said it is among the authorised institutions permitted to offer the scheme, which has become more accessible as the government has expanded the list of participating banks.
That broader access matters because the Capital Gains Account Scheme is often used by taxpayers who need time to complete a purchase or construction plan without losing the tax treatment attached to the original gain. Karnataka Bank said the product is intended to support that process while keeping the funds within the framework of the tax rules.
