Indian management consultant’s rapid wealth surge highlights Middle East income potential

A Reddit post reveals how an Indian management consultant’s net worth soared from ₹1 crore to ₹7.5 crore in three years, driven by high-paying Gulf roles and strategic investments, sparking online debate about earning and saving strategies.

A Reddit post about an Indian management consultant’s rapid rise in wealth has drawn attention online, after he said his net worth grew from about ₹1 crore at 34 to ₹7.5 crore by the age of 37. In the post on r/Indian_flex, the 37-year-old described himself as an NRI working for a top management consulting firm and set out what he said was a career built across engineering, consulting and industry roles before a move to the Middle East turbocharged his savings.

According to the account shared on Reddit and reported by LiveMint, the professional said he began work at 22 on ₹10 lakh a year, moved into management consulting after an MBA at 26 on ₹25 lakh, then switched to an industry role at 29 on ₹40 lakh before later reaching ₹65 lakh. He said that phase left him with about ₹1 crore in assets, including EPF, gold, equities and property. His biggest jump, he claimed, came at 34, when he returned to consulting in the Middle East on ₹3.5 crore a year, tax-free.

The post said that in the two and a half years since then, he has saved nearly ₹6.5 crore and now has about ₹7.5 crore in total net worth. He said his holdings include three fully paid-up Mumbai properties, roughly 700 grams of gold held through physical bullion and sovereign gold bonds, and about ₹30 lakh in equities. When asked about his pay, he replied that he earns $26,000 a month before bonus. His comments also revived interest in how overseas income is moved back to India, with him saying it can be routed through an NRE account. The reaction on Reddit ranged from congratulations to questions about his investing approach, underscoring the pull of high-paying roles in the Gulf for Indian professionals.
