LPG customers across India have been asked to complete Aadhaar-based e-KYC by August 15 or risk disruption when booking fresh cylinders, according to a report from News Today. The requirement covers users of Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum, including beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.
The process can be completed on the oil companies’ official apps, including IndianOil ONE, HP Pay and Hello BPCL, by using registered mobile and consumer numbers, selecting the e-KYC update option and entering Aadhaar details. Biometric verification is then carried out through the AadhaarFaceRD app, while customers who have already completed e-KYC do not need to do it again.
The push follows a wider government drive that began in March 2026, when the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas made Aadhaar-based biometric authentication compulsory for domestic LPG consumers who had not yet completed the process. MediaNama and other Indian outlets reported that the aim was to verify genuine users, protect subsidy delivery and reduce misuse in the LPG system.
Officials have also clarified that the rule was not a fresh requirement for every consumer, but rather a completion drive for those still outstanding. Those unable to finish the update through an app can seek help from their LPG distributor or gas agency, according to the report.
