HDFC Bank replaces Swiggy co-branded credit card with new tiers amid surge in grocery spending

HDFC Bank is phasing out its existing Swiggy co-branded credit card, introducing Swiggy ORNGE and Swiggy BLCK to cater to different spending habits, as grocery and food delivery transactions in India reach record highs.

HDFC Bank is winding down its existing Swiggy co-branded credit card and moving holders towards two replacements, Swiggy ORNGE and Swiggy BLCK, as card spending on groceries and supermarkets continues to be a major category in India. Industry data cited in the lead report showed MCC 5411 transactions reached 3,845.91 million in July 2026, worth ₹82,144.98 crore, underlining why cashback cards tied to food and daily essentials remain in demand.

According to Moneycontrol, cardholders who do not choose a new variant within the given period will be shifted to Swiggy ORNGE by default. Existing users can continue using the old card until the new one is activated, or for 60 days after issuance, but they may need to reset autopays and card controls after migration. HDFC Bank says ORNGE is available as a lifetime-free option for eligible existing customers, while BLCK is pitched at heavier Swiggy users.

The bank’s own product pages show why the two cards appeal to different spenders. Swiggy ORNGE carries a fee of ₹500 plus taxes, with the renewal fee waived on annual spending of ₹1.5 lakh or more, and offers 5% cashback on eligible Swiggy food, Instamart and Dineout purchases, 5% on eligible online spends and 1% elsewhere, subject to caps and a minimum transaction size for the 5% reward. Swiggy BLCK costs ₹1,000 plus taxes, waives the first-year fee if cardholders spend ₹75,000 within 90 days, and gives 10% cashback on eligible Swiggy spends, alongside 5% online cashback and 1% on other purchases, again with spending thresholds and monthly limits.

For people considering a broader cashback card instead of staying within the Swiggy range, HSBC Live+ and Axis ACE are among the main alternatives. HSBC says Live+ offers 10% accelerated cashback of up to ₹1,200 a month on dining, food delivery, groceries, shopping and utilities, plus 1.5% unlimited cashback on most other spends, with a ₹999 joining fee and an annual fee waived above ₹2 lakh in yearly spending. Axis ACE, according to HDFC Bank’s comparison in the lead article, offers 5% cashback on utility bills paid through Google Pay, 4% on Swiggy, Zomato and Ola, and 1.5% on other eligible transactions, with cashback automatically credited and a ₹499 annual fee waived above ₹2 lakh in spending.
