Galaxy Health Insurance has launched Galaxy Fly Global Travel Insurance, targeting Indians travelling abroad for holidays, work, or study, as it diversifies beyond its core health business amid rising outbound travel and demand for comprehensive coverage.
Galaxy Health Insurance has entered the international travel insurance market with a new product aimed at Indians heading abroad for holidays, work, study or employment, as the insurer looks to push beyond its core health business.
The company said its Galaxy Fly Global Travel Insurance policy is designed to cover both medical emergencies and common journey disruptions, including hospitalisation, outpatient treatment, emergency evacuation, repatriation, trip cancellation, flight delays, missed connections and baggage loss. G. Srinivasan, the company’s managing director and chief executive, said in a statement: “Travel insurance is becoming as essential as a passport. The risks associated with travelling overseas have also evolved significantly over the years. As a specialist health insurer, we believe healthcare shouldn’t stop at India’s borders.”
The launch comes as outbound travel from India continues to gather pace and insurers report stronger demand for travel cover. Tata AIG has said nearly 40% of Indian travellers are now choosing emerging destinations such as South Korea, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Japan and the Maldives, while other industry reports point to a 22% annual rise in travel insurance adoption in 2026. Even so, a large protection gap remains, with one recent industry summary saying many travellers still go uninsured unless coverage is required for a visa.
The timing may also reflect a broader shift since the pandemic, when rising overseas medical costs and greater awareness of travel risks began pushing more travellers towards higher-cover policies. ETTravelWorld has reported a sharp increase in policies with cover above $250,000, and The Times of India has said the number of lives covered under overseas travel insurance has nearly doubled over six years. Galaxy said it expects travel insurance to become an important growth driver in its retail business over the coming years.
