South Indian Bank breaks above ascending channel as momentum accelerates

South Indian Bank shares have moved above the Rs 52.50 upper boundary of an ascending channel, trading above key moving averages as rising volumes and an RSI of 72 point to strong momentum.

South Indian Bank is drawing attention after its shares broke out of an ascending channel on the daily chart, a technical move that traders often read as a sign that an existing uptrend may have further to run. According to the TradeBrains analysis, the stock moved above the pattern’s upper boundary at Rs 52.50 on 19 October, a level that marked an inflection point for the recent price action.

An ascending channel is a bullish continuation formation in which prices rise between two parallel upward-sloping lines, with the lower line acting as support and the upper line as resistance. Technical guides from ChartGuys, BabyPips and other market education sources explain that a breakout above the top of the channel can indicate strengthening momentum, particularly when the move is backed by heavier-than-usual trading volume.

That appears to be the case here, with the stock trading above both its 20-day and 50-day exponential moving averages, a sign that short- and medium-term trends remain constructive. The TradeBrains report also pointed to rising volumes and a daily relative strength index reading of 72, which suggests momentum is strong, though some traders may also view that level as approaching overbought territory.

TradeBrains noted that South Indian Bank is now sitting above its previous all-time high of Rs 54.86, which could leave room for additional upside if buyers continue to dominate. The bank, founded in 1929 and based in Thrissur, Kerala, has a broad retail and corporate banking franchise and has benefited from a strong share-price run in recent months, gaining 38.37% over the past six months, 19.28% in the past month and 43.18% so far this year, according to the article.
