Seven of India’s top 10 firms lose Rs 1.13 lakh crore in a week as market sentiment falters

Seven of India’s most valuable listed companies saw a combined Rs 1.13 lakh crore wiped from their market capitalisation over the past week amid weakening sentiment and index declines, with Bharti Airtel and Reliance Industries leading the losses.

Seven of India’s 10 most valuable listed companies shed a combined Rs 1.13 lakh crore in market value over the past week, as equity sentiment weakened and the main indices slipped. Bharti Airtel and Reliance Industries accounted for the largest declines, while Tata Consultancy Services, ICICI Bank and State Bank of India moved against the broader trend.

According to market data cited by Reuters-style reports and business publications, the BSE Sensex fell 276.32 points, or 0.35%, during the week, while the NSE Nifty dropped 76.35 points, or 0.31%. That followed a broader stretch of nervous trading in which investors weighed domestic market weakness alongside concerns around global cues.

Bharti Airtel saw the sharpest erosion in value, with its capitalisation falling by Rs 40,500.85 crore to Rs 11,74,462.30 crore. Reliance Industries was close behind, losing Rs 40,056.32 crore to end the week at Rs 17,38,119.27 crore. HDFC Bank also gave up Rs 11,558.35 crore, while Bajaj Finance shed Rs 10,086.05 crore. Larsen & Toubro, Life Insurance Corporation of India and Hindustan Unilever also posted declines.

The losses were partly offset by gains in three large names. TCS added Rs 16,643.20 crore in market value to reach Rs 8,48,079.71 crore, making it the biggest gainer among the group. ICICI Bank rose by Rs 4,475.28 crore, and SBI edged up Rs 599.99 crore.

Even after the weekly pullback, Reliance remained India’s most valuable company by market capitalisation. Bharti Airtel stayed in second place, followed by HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, SBI, TCS, Bajaj Finance, Larsen & Toubro, LIC and Hindustan Unilever.
