Poonawalla Fincorp shares rose sharply after September-quarter profit climbed to ₹375 crore, while heavy trading followed the non-bank lender’s strong earnings report.
Poonawalla Fincorp shares rose sharply in early trade on Monday after the non-bank lender reported a steep jump in quarterly earnings, with profit climbing to ₹375 crore in the September quarter from ₹74 crore a year earlier. The stock opened higher on the National Stock Exchange, climbed as much as 8% to an intraday high of ₹484, and then gave back some of those gains by late morning as investors locked in profits.
Trading was unusually busy. Exchange data showed that more than 15 million shares changed hands in the first 45 minutes, with turnover reaching ₹716.46 crore. Even after easing from the day’s peak, the stock remained in positive territory, reflecting a favourable market reaction to the latest numbers.
The earnings improvement was driven chiefly by stronger interest income. According to the company’s results, total income rose to ₹2,625 crore from ₹1,543 crore in the same period a year earlier, while interest income increased to ₹2,416 crore from ₹1,402 crore. Other reports on the results said net interest income and fee income also strengthened, supporting the rise in profit, while asset quality improved and the gross non-performing asset ratio fell compared with the previous quarter.
Poonawalla Fincorp said its assets under management reached ₹74,008 crore as of September 30, 2026. Analysts quoted by Business Standard said the shares had been moving in a broad ₹425 to ₹505 range in recent sessions, with ₹505 seen as a key technical barrier. One market observer said a clear move above that level could draw in fresh buying, although another note published on the stock pointed out that it remains down over the past year, suggesting that investors may want to see the earnings momentum continue before re-rating the shares more aggressively.
