The Nifty 50 index remains range-bound with resistance near 24,470, as technical signals suggest caution ahead of a potential breakout or retest of support levels amid ongoing market volatility.
Nifty 50 extended its weakness on Friday as buyers failed to build on Wednesday’s rebound from 24,266, leaving the index struggling to hold above 24,300. The market breadth stayed negative, with declines outnumbering advances, reinforcing the view that the recovery remains fragile.
Technical analysts said the key hurdle is 24,400, a level the index has not been able to clear convincingly. Until that happens, the risk remains of a retest of 24,250, which is seen as an important support. A clear break below that floor could open the way to 24,000, while a sustained move above 24,400 would improve the outlook and could allow the index to push towards 24,480 to 24,500.
In the derivatives market, Nifty 50 August futures were also under pressure, trading near 24,401. Analysts said the 24,450 to 24,470 band is the immediate resistance zone, and that only a decisive breakout above 24,470 would create room for a move towards 24,540 or 24,580. On the downside, support is seen around 24,350, with weaker price action below that level potentially dragging the contract to 24,300 or lower.
For now, market strategists are treating the session as a holding pattern rather than a clear trading opportunity. The suggested range is 24,350 to 24,470, and traders are being advised to wait for a breakout before taking a directional view. A separate technical report from August 2025 had also warned that Nifty needed follow-through buying after recovery moves to avoid slipping back towards lower support zones, while a June 2026 note described the broader market as range-bound with momentum still lacking conviction.
