Kirloskar Ferrous defies sector volatility with strong first-quarter earnings growth

Kirloskar Ferrous Industries reports a robust first quarter with rising operating income and net profit, showcasing resilience amid sector volatility and signalling potential for sustained profitability.

Kirloskar Ferrous Industries began its first-quarter FY27 earnings call by framing the period as one of improved profitability and steady demand, with managing director Ravindranath Gumaste and finance executive director R.S. Srivatsan on the line as the company reviewed the quarter with analysts. The call, hosted by Antique Stock Broking, came as investors looked for clues on how industrial and metals-linked businesses were navigating a mixed operating backdrop.

According to market data compiled by LiveMint, the company’s operating income rose 23.44% from a year earlier to ₹155.28 crore, while net income increased 36.37% to ₹95.12 crore. Revenue for the quarter came in at ₹1,698.09 crore, up 9.30% year on year but 2.24% lower than the previous quarter. Operating expenses eased 3.71% sequentially to ₹1,542.81 crore, helping support diluted normalised earnings per share of ₹5.64, a gain of 33.94% from the same period last year.

The numbers also arrived against a broadly encouraging start to the FY27 earnings season. Business Standard reported that 156 early reporters had together delivered a 19.4% year-on-year rise in net profit, the strongest growth in 11 quarters, with banking, oil and gas, metals and IT services among the main drivers. In that context, Kirloskar Ferrous appeared to fit a wider pattern of resilient corporate earnings, even as quarter-on-quarter revenue volatility remained visible across sectors.

Kirloskar Ferrous’s latest performance suggests that cost discipline and improved operating leverage are still supporting profitability, even when sales momentum is uneven from one quarter to the next. For investors, the key question now is whether the company can sustain that margin strength if demand conditions soften or input costs turn less favourable.
