EIH reports strong revenue growth amid margin pressures in Q1 FY27

EIH Limited announced significant revenue growth in its Q1 FY27 earnings, driven by higher room rates and domestic demand, despite facing margin pressures from rising costs and operational factors.

EIH Limited said on its first-quarter FY27 earnings call that revenue rose strongly on both a standalone and consolidated basis, even as profitability came under pressure from several factors. Vikram Oberoi, the company’s chief executive, opened the virtual briefing by flagging the revenue performance and saying Vineet Kapur, the chief financial officer, would explain the margin drag.

The call was held on August 12 and recorded for compliance, with the company warning that some comments were forward-looking and should be weighed against operating risks. Management then moved into a question-and-answer session after its opening remarks. According to the transcript, the company did not give a full breakdown of the margin pressure in Oberoi’s opening comments, but indicated that costs and other operating factors weighed on EBITDA, or earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation.

The results build on a pattern seen in earlier quarters, when EIH reported record revenue and EBITDA helped by higher average room rates and stronger revenue per available room, a key hotel industry measure. Analysts have said the next phase of growth is likely to depend more on rate increases than on a large rise in owned-room supply, because new keys in the company’s owned hotels are expected to remain limited over FY27 and FY28. Managed hotel additions are expected to gather pace later, with a larger pipeline in FY29 and FY30.

That longer-term outlook also includes continued renovation work and new openings, including Trident Vizag, which is expected in 2027. Market commentary has suggested domestic demand, rather than international travel, should remain a key support for luxury hospitality in India, helped by demographic shifts that favour premium leisure and business travel.
