Shares of Ashok Leyland surged over 4%, bolstered by technical indicators and strong FY26 financial results, with analysts eyeing a rise to ₹200 amid bullish patterns and record operating figures.
Ashok Leyland began the week with a sharp rise that technical analysts say has strengthened the near-term case for further gains. The move, which pushed the stock up more than 4% on Monday, is seen as confirmation of an inverted head-and-shoulders formation on the chart, a pattern often interpreted as a bullish reversal. Analysts tracking the stock say the key support band now sits around ₹169 to ₹167, with ₹169 marking the neckline and the 200-day moving average near ₹167. On that basis, they see room for the share price to advance towards ₹200 in the coming weeks, with an entry level around ₹174 and a lower buying zone near ₹170.
The trade set-up comes with clear guardrails. The recommended stop-loss is ₹162, while traders are being advised to lift protection as the stock climbs, first to ₹177 once it reaches ₹181, then to ₹183 at ₹187 and ₹188 at ₹191. The position is intended to be exited near ₹194. Businessline said the call is based purely on technical analysis, and it also flagged the usual risk of loss in short-term trading.
That upbeat chart reading sits against a stronger operating backdrop than the market has recently priced in. ScanX reported that Ashok Leyland delivered record standalone revenue of ₹44,007 crore for financial year 2026, up 14% from a year earlier, while profit after tax rose 7.9% to ₹3,565.53 crore. The company also posted an all-time high in commercial vehicle volumes at 220,437 units, and international sales climbed 18.5% to a record 18,082 units. The board has also proposed a total dividend of ₹3.50 a share and a 1:1 bonus issue.
Even so, not all broker commentary has been uniformly bullish. Business Standard reported in May that the shares fell after fourth-quarter FY26 results as some analysts warned of margin pressure from higher fuel prices, inflation and the possibility of interest-rate increases. Nomura kept a neutral stance with a ₹169 target, while Motilal Oswal maintained a buy recommendation with a ₹188 target, arguing that demand and margins could normalise from the second half of FY27. StockAnalysis data meanwhile shows consensus remains constructive, with a buy rating and 12-month price targets clustered in the ₹183 to ₹183.50 range, helped by a 26% rise in domestic vehicle sales in June 2026 compared with a year earlier.
