AIA Engineering’s shares gained 1.33% on October 6, buoyed by strong revenue growth, but margins showed signs of stress, prompting investors to evaluate if the pressure is temporary or structural.
AIA Engineering shares edged higher on October 6 even as the latest quarterly figures pointed to pressure on margins beneath the surface of double-digit revenue growth. The stock finished at INR 3,914.70 on the National Stock Exchange, after rising 1.33 per cent, while broader market trackers showed a similar price band through the session and a valuation that still sits well above the sector average on a trailing earnings basis.
The company’s first quarter for FY27 brought revenue of INR 1,168 crore, up 12.4 per cent from a year earlier, according to DSIJ. Sales volume increased 7.5 per cent to 64,644 metric tonnes, indicating that higher shipments and pricing both supported turnover. Even so, profitability did not keep pace. EBITDA rose only 0.5 per cent to INR 308 crore, while the margin slipped to 26.4 per cent from 29.5 per cent. Profit after tax also fell 1.3 per cent to INR 301 crore, underscoring the gap between top-line expansion and bottom-line conversion.
The market’s focus remains on whether AIA can turn mining trials into steady commercial orders. DSIJ said the order book stood at INR 977 crore as of July 1, 2026, with mining contributing 61 per cent of total volume, or 39,228 metric tonnes, up 7.8 per cent year on year. ICICI Direct Research kept a Buy rating and a target price of INR 5,225, based on a longer-term thesis that includes scaling up high-chrome grinding media sales and expanding the New Generation Discharge System.
For now, the central debate is whether weaker margins are a temporary cost issue or a more durable feature of the business mix. DSIJ reported that management expects operating margins to settle towards 20 to 22 per cent as volumes rise and the product mix changes. Input costs, freight and delays in converting trials into full orders remain the main variables. Live market data from Mint and Business Standard put the stock near INR 3,942 on October 6, with a market capitalisation of about INR 36,779 crore and a 52-week range of INR 3,150.60 to INR 5,180.00, leaving the shares about a quarter below their peak.
