The $15 million Series A will help Mural expand its banking, payments and compliance infrastructure for businesses deploying autonomous software agents.
Tether has led a $15 million Series A round for Mural, a New York-based financial technology company that is building payment infrastructure for businesses and autonomous software agents. The investment lifts Mural’s total funding to $28 million, according to the company’s announcement on 20 October.
North Island Ventures and existing backers also took part in the financing. Mural said it intends to use the new capital to expand overseas and deepen the banking, payments and compliance tools it offers to firms that want to let software agents move money under controlled rules.
Founded in 2022 by former Palantir engineers Sinclair Toffa and Chris Fernandes, Mural has positioned itself as a bridge between traditional finance and blockchain-based payments. Its platform gives companies a way to manage accounts, payment instructions, identity checks and regulatory requirements across banking networks and blockchains, without having to build separate systems for each rail. Clients include Deel, Opera and Axexo, and the company says it has handled $2.1 billion in payments across 128 countries since launching its application programming interface in 2025.
The funding also underlines Tether’s growing interest in artificial intelligence. The stablecoin issuer has recently backed other AI-related companies, including AIsa and Tenstorrent. In Mural’s case, Tether appears to be betting that the next phase of payments will involve software agents that can act for businesses within set limits, using tools for approval thresholds, counterparties and extra authorisation on larger transactions. Mural has not disclosed the valuation attached to the round.
Toffa said in the company’s announcement that “The economy is about to gain 10 billion new participants, and none of them are human.” Tether chief executive Paolo Ardoino said the appeal lay in Mural’s ability to connect enterprise software with stablecoin payments while still linking into the banking and compliance systems on which the wider financial system depends.
