PhonePe's PulsePro transforms transaction data into hyperlocal market insights for businesses

PhonePe launches PulsePro, a new analytics platform leveraging transaction data to provide granular, real-time market insights for corporate clients across India, enhancing location-based decision-making.

PhonePe is turning the vast flow of digital payments on its network into a new business line aimed at corporate customers seeking sharper market intelligence, as the company expands beyond consumer payments into analytics.

In an interview with The Economic Times, Karthik Raghupathy, PhonePe’s head of strategy, said PulsePro builds on the company’s earlier public data platform, Pulse, and is designed to show how spending patterns change at street level. He said the service uses transaction behaviour rather than surveys, arguing that observed purchases can provide a more reliable picture of demand, distribution and store performance.

According to PhonePe, PulsePro is built on a payments ecosystem of more than 700 million registered users and 50 million merchants, covering 99% of India’s postal codes. The company says the platform offers hyperlocal and near-real-time insights for retailers, FMCG groups and apparel brands, with tools for category growth, retail network planning and site selection.

The platform is also built around very fine-grained geography. PhonePe says it can break data down to 250-metre by 250-metre grids, allowing companies to compare neighbouring locations and spot differences that might affect expansion decisions. Raghupathy told The Economic Times that in retail, the right location can be worth crores of rupees, underlining why granular mapping matters for brands weighing where to open, stock or distribute.

PhonePe says the information is aggregated and anonymised, with privacy safeguards built into the system. The company has also said PulsePro is intended as a subscription product for businesses that need faster signals on consumer spending, category shifts and market entry opportunities. In a separate statement, PhonePe said it has signed an agreement with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to support the government’s PM GatiShakti infrastructure planning framework, suggesting the platform could also be used beyond private-sector decision-making.
