KFin Technologies and APMI launch industry-wide AML platform to enhance ongoing investor screening

KFin Technologies and the Association of Portfolio Managers in India have introduced InPro, a unified compliance platform set to transform investor screening and monitoring practices across India’s portfolio management sector.

KFin Technologies and the Association of Portfolio Managers in India have launched InPro, a shared anti-money laundering and compliance platform aimed at giving portfolio management firms a more uniform way to screen investors, monitor risk and keep audit trails. The system was unveiled by Tuhin Kanta Pandey, chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India, at APMI’s third annual conference in Mumbai, according to the companies and conference reports.

The launch reflects a broader shift in compliance practice: firms are increasingly expected to do more than carry out one-off checks at the point of onboarding. Investor profiles can change, sanctions lists can be updated, politically exposed person links can emerge and adverse media can surface long after a client has been accepted. InPro is designed to respond to that reality by combining screening, continuous monitoring, case management and decision logging in one operating environment.

According to the companies’ announcement, the platform lets members screen investor profiles against global sanctions lists, Indian debarment lists, politically exposed person databases, regulatory watchlists and adverse media sources. It also routes potential matches through a maker-checker process, allowing compliance teams to review alerts, resolve false positives where appropriate, escalate cases and document the reasons for their decisions. The system keeps a historical record of screening activity and alert handling, which the companies say should help with both regulatory scrutiny and internal reviews.

APMI’s adoption of InPro as a central compliance tool is intended to make more sophisticated anti-money laundering infrastructure available across the portfolio management sector, including smaller and boutique firms that may not have the resources to build such systems on their own. Sreekanth Nadella, managing director and chief executive of KFin Technologies, said the platform was meant to bring compliance controls closer to the centre of market infrastructure, while Vikas Khemani, chairman of APMI, said the initiative was designed to strengthen governance, support investor trust and give members access to common screening and documentation standards.
