COLIBRIX ONE brings explainable AI into UK and EU merchant checks

The payments firm will use Vivox AI agents to speed up ownership, sanctions and adverse-media checks, while compliance analysts retain final approval.

COLIBRIX ONE has turned to Vivox AI in a multi-year deal to speed up the checks it carries out on new merchant customers, as payments firms face growing pressure to process applications quickly while keeping pace with financial crime rules. The partnership will see the company use Vivox AI’s explainable AI agents to review corporate documents, map ownership structures and screen for sanctions and adverse media, while compliance analysts retain final approval over every case.

The arrangement is aimed at one of the most labour-intensive parts of merchant onboarding: verifying who ultimately controls a business, especially when ownership stretches across more than one jurisdiction. According to Vivox AI, its system can examine company registries and supporting documents in more than 155 countries and produce due diligence reports for human review, with each output traceable back to its source material.

Vivox AI pointed to earlier work with TransferMate, another global payments infrastructure provider, as evidence of the technology’s effect. The company said that deployment cut review times from about an hour to less than 15 minutes per case and reduced screening alerts by 86 per cent. On its website, Vivox AI says its agents are designed to automate much of the manual work involved in anti-money laundering and know-your-business checks while preserving an audit trail that regulators can inspect.

The new rollout will begin with merchant onboarding across the UK and EU, with COLIBRIX ONE planning to extend the system to ongoing monitoring and additional entities in 2027. COLIBRIX ONE, which offers card acquiring, multi-currency current accounts with dedicated IBANs and international payouts, says the move is intended to support growth without slowing compliance.
