Axle has raised $17.5 million in Series A funding to expand its AI-driven insurance platform, aiming to streamline industry workflows, reduce processing times, and unlock unrecovered losses for over 4,000 organisations across multiple markets.
Axle has raised $17.5 million in Series A funding as it tries to make insurance data easier to access and automate a part of the industry that still leans heavily on manual work, according to the company and reporting by Reinsurance News. Base10 Partners led the round, with participation from Y Combinator, Gradient, Stage 2 Capital and insurance angel investors including the founders of Cover Genius.
The New York-based company says its platform now handles more than $100 billion in insurance coverage each year for over 4,000 organisations. Its customer list includes Rocket Mortgage, Avis, Experian and Sonic Automotive, and the company said the number of workflows on its system has tripled in the past six months. Axle claims its technology can cut processing times by as much as 20-fold and has helped customers recover hundreds of millions of dollars in losses that previously went unrecovered.
Axle is pitching itself as an AI-native clearinghouse for insurance, a role that would sit between insurers and the businesses that need to verify coverage, monitor policy changes or check requirements in real time. The company says the industry remains fragmented, with data often trapped in different policy administration systems or locked inside documents that are not easy for software to read. In practice, that still leaves many firms relying on phone calls, faxed forms and other labour-intensive checks.
The latest funding will go towards hiring in engineering and commercial roles as Axle broadens its reach beyond the five markets where it has already built a model. The company aims to expand into more than 50 insurance segments, including home, motor, renters, commercial and specialty lines. It also wants deeper ties with carriers, which Axle says are increasingly using its system as a controlled gateway to insurance data and workflows.
Axle was founded by Cameron Duncan, Armaan Sikand and Nihar Parikh, who previously worked together on products for automotive manufacturers, rental car firms and mortgage lenders at Deloitte Digital and Cox Automotive. The founders argue that insurance has lacked the sort of shared infrastructure that already exists in areas such as payments, credit and identity, and they believe standardising policy data could make the sector more valuable for insurers, businesses and consumers alike.
