Tamil Nadu’s new government launches its economic drive with 97 memoranda of understanding worth more than ₹67,542 crore, aiming to boost industrial growth and create over 1.2 lakh jobs in the state.
Tamil Nadu’s new government has opened its investment account with 97 memoranda of understanding worth more than ₹67,542 crore at its first major industrial conclave in Chennai, a day the industries minister said would push the administration’s first 100 days past ₹1 lakh crore in cumulative commitments. At the event, called the Vettri Tamil Nadu Investment Conclave 2026, officials said the agreements could generate more than 1.2 lakh jobs.
Among the biggest commitments, Hinduja Group said it would invest ₹2,500 crore across renewable energy, electric mobility, automotive, financial services and battery charging infrastructure, including more than 200 MW of renewable energy projects. Daimler India Commercial Vehicles plans to spend ₹4,000 crore expanding its Oragadam plant for design, research, development and manufacturing, while Saint-Gobain will put ₹2,000 crore into a new plant in Krishnagiri and an expansion in Kancheepuram. YKK, the Japanese fastening products maker, will invest ₹1,651 crore in Tiruvallur and said the project will create 4,316 jobs.
The conclave also highlighted a push to spread industrial activity beyond the state’s biggest hubs. Phoenix Kothari Group’s ₹1,000 crore plan is set to bring Ramanathapuram its first large investment, while Ascendas Firstspace will develop a ₹1,000 crore industrial park in Tiruvallur and Super Micro Computer will establish server assembly operations in Chennai. Titan plans to invest ₹1,000 crore in Hosur to expand production in watches, jewellery and automation equipment, and Lucas TVS will add ₹2,500 crore across several facilities.
Tamil Nadu’s pitch is being framed around execution as much as new announcements. At a separate Conversion Conclave in Chennai in February, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said 73.5% of the memoranda signed since 2021 had moved into execution, while Industries Minister T.R.B. Raja put the figure at 82.52%, or 530 of 631 agreements, with committed investments above ₹10.43 lakh crore and more than 36 lakh jobs. That backdrop gives added weight to Thursday’s announcements, as the state looks to convert fresh commitments into factories, supply chains and employment.
