Rajasthan aims to expand its startup ecosystem beyond urban centres, backed by government initiatives and a new emphasis on rural and emerging technology sectors, as officials and ministers promote inclusive innovation at the Rajasthan Youth Conclave.
At the Rajasthan Youth Conclave in Jaipur, Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman urged startups to look beyond the major cities and serve people in rural and remote areas, arguing that the benefits of innovation should not be limited to urban India. She said both the central and state governments were providing policy and financial backing to help the startup ecosystem widen its reach and encouraged young founders to build ideas that translate into public value.
Sitharaman also pointed to the wider financial inclusion push that followed the launch of the PM Jan Dhan Yojana after 2014, saying bank accounts had helped more households access credit and other formal financial services. During her interaction with founders from Rajasthan, she praised ideas aimed at improving citizen services and also met a woman associated with Rajeevika, the state’s rural livelihood initiative.
Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma used the event to set out Rajasthan’s ambitions in innovation, entrepreneurship and technology. He said the state had expanded its startup and incubation network, including a Tribal Incubation Centre in Banswara, taking the total number of incubation centres to 10. Sharma said startup investment in Rajasthan had risen from about Rs. 250 crore in 2023 to Rs. 1,054 crore, while employment in the ecosystem had grown from 22,000 to more than 49,000.
The chief minister said the iStart programme now covers all 33 districts and has 65 Launchpad Nests in schools and colleges, with 129,000 students registered and more than 4,000 outreach sessions held across over 3,000 institutions. Related programme descriptions show iStart is designed as a single-window platform for registration, incubation, funding, mentorship and market access, with support for women-led and rural startups as well as government procurement opportunities. Sharma also said Rajasthan was pushing into artificial intelligence, gaming, robotics and other emerging fields through new policy measures, including an AI-ML policy launched this year and expanded digital services on WhatsApp.
