Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi is courting more than 20 major companies in Mumbai as Odisha seeks to expand beyond mining and metallurgy into higher-value manufacturing.
Odisha is stepping up its pitch to global industry, with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi using India Chem 2026 in Mumbai to promote the state as a destination for chemical and petrochemical investment. Reports from Odisha-based and national outlets said the visit was designed to showcase the state’s industrial infrastructure, policy support and growth plans to companies in chemicals, petrochemicals, plastics and packaging.
The delegation’s outreach has been built around one-to-one meetings with more than 20 major companies, alongside a roundtable with industry leaders. According to reports on the event, Majhi also took part in the opening session and a CEO roundtable chaired by Union Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister J.P. Nadda, underlining New Delhi’s involvement in the sector’s investment push. Odisha officials are seeking to broaden the state’s industrial identity beyond mining and metallurgy.
A central part of the pitch is a set of infrastructure ideas meant to make the state more attractive to investors. The discussion in Mumbai has included coal gasification projects, which Odisha says could support cleaner industrial energy use, as well as plans for a large chemical park intended to give manufacturers plug-and-play facilities. Webindia123 reported that the government may announce a dedicated, large-scale chemical industrial park, while other reports said the state is pressing its case for capital inflows and job creation.
The outreach also fits into a wider campaign to draw downstream manufacturing to Odisha. Nation Press said the strategy builds on the state’s Make in Odisha investment summits, while industry-focused coverage noted that the government wants to strengthen sustainable industrial growth and create employment, especially for young people. If the Mumbai campaign converts interest into commitments, it could mark another step in Odisha’s attempt to turn itself into a hub for higher-value manufacturing.
