Karnataka to expand Tumakuru industrial node with 1,736 acres to attract ₹7,000 crore investment

Karnataka is set to enlarge the Tumakuru industrial corridor by acquiring 1,736 acres, aiming to boost investment of ₹7,000 crore and create over 88,000 jobs, as part of its wider national industrial push.

Karnataka is moving to enlarge the Tumakuru industrial node by acquiring 1,736 acres of land, a step the state says could help draw about ₹7,000 crore in investment. Industries Minister M B Patil said the expansion is intended to accelerate development at one of the state’s key industrial corridors and strengthen Tumakuru’s role in the wider Bengaluru manufacturing belt.

Patil made the remarks virtually at the third meeting of the Apex Monitoring Authority of the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust, which was chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The Hindu BusinessLine reported that the Tumakuru node has reached 30 per cent physical progress and 20 per cent financial progress. Of the land already set aside, 300 acres have been reserved for a Japan Industrial Township and 200 acres for micro, small and medium enterprises.

The project has been planned as a major employment hub, with estimates of more than 88,000 jobs. The first phase, covering the 1,736-acre priority area, was previously described by officials as a five- to six-year project, with completion targeted for 2027. The node has already named Jindal Aluminium as its anchor investor, with 151 acres allotted, while another 41 acres has been marked for institutional use. According to earlier project updates, sector priorities include food and beverages, textiles and apparel, electronics, chemicals, general engineering and logistics.

Tumakuru is also being developed alongside wider transport and urban plans, including a 59.6-km Namma Metro extension from Madavara with 26 stations. The corridor sits within a larger national industrial push that includes 11 industrial corridors and 20 smart cities across 13 states. In Karnataka alone, the Bengaluru–Chennai, Bengaluru–Hyderabad and Bengaluru–Mumbai corridors are under development, with the broader programme estimated to cost ₹50,759 crore and capable of attracting ₹5.35 lakh crore in investment and generating 14 lakh jobs, Sitharaman said.
