The Karnataka government has approved over ₹29,000 crore in new and expanded industrial projects, aiming to generate more than 66,000 jobs and diversify economic growth beyond Bengaluru, with increased scrutiny on project approvals.
Karnataka has cleared investment proposals worth ₹29,679.20 crore across manufacturing, energy, aerospace and related industries, a move the state government says could create 66,360 jobs. The approvals were taken by the High-Level Clearance Committee chaired by Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, according to local reports on September 3.
Among the largest new commitments, Hero Future Energies plans to invest ₹9,760 crore and generate about 3,200 jobs, while Mahindra Aerostructures is set to put in ₹2,300 crore for roughly 3,000 jobs. Other projects include Vibrancy Renewable Energies, Aequs Consumer Products and TruAlt Bioenergy, reflecting the state’s push to spread industrial activity across multiple sectors.
The committee also backed additional investment proposals from firms including Epsilon, Toyota Kirloskar, Nirani Sugars and Lighthouse Alternative Assets, alongside supplementary outlays from MSPL, Ensure Reliance Power Solutions, Honda Cars, Bhima Fine Chemicals, Sansera, TVS Motor and Havells India. Moneycontrol and The Economic Times reported that the package included nine new proposals and eight expansion or amendment proposals, with Toyota Kirloskar among the better-known names in the list.
Shivakumar has been pressing officials to tighten scrutiny as Karnataka seeks to attract more private capital. According to the reports, he ordered the finance department to examine project documents closely, called for a pre-clearance audit and asked for a dedicated audit team. That emphasis fits with his recent push to widen industrial development beyond Bengaluru, with officials already being asked to identify five cities for future growth.
