Reliance is preparing Jio’s mega stock market debut as it builds AI-ready data centres, pursues a sovereign satellite network and targets full 5G migration by 2030.
Reliance Jio is preparing for a watershed moment with its proposed mega initial public offering, while also stepping up work on the technologies that could define its next decade, including artificial intelligence, 5G, data centres and satellite communications. At Reliance Industries’ annual general meeting in June, chairman Mukesh Ambani said the company had approved the draft red herring prospectus for the listing and framed the move as part of a wider push into digital infrastructure and AI-led services, according to Business Standard.
The ambition goes well beyond a stock market debut. Reliance is positioning Jio as a broader technology platform, with plans to build sovereign AI infrastructure, expand satellite broadband and accelerate the shift to 5G, Business Standard reported. Livemint said the company wants to migrate its entire subscriber base to 5G by 2030, while also building a sovereign low-Earth orbit satellite constellation for India. In the meantime, Jio is expected to work with global satellite operators and lease capacity so it can speed up satellite broadband services before its own network matures.
A central part of that strategy is infrastructure in Jamnagar, where Reliance has outlined plans for AI-ready data centres powered by cleaner energy. Business Standard reported in August 2024 that Ambani wants to make AI more accessible and affordable, with the Jamnagar facility intended to anchor that effort. Economic Times reported that the company’s new Reliance Intelligence unit is meant to help make AI “dramatically more affordable” in India by the end of the decade, underscoring a push to bring advanced computing to a mass market rather than a narrow corporate audience.
The IPO itself is being closely watched because of the scale of the business and the role Jio has played in reshaping India’s telecom market. Livemint reported that Jio’s entry more than a decade ago drove down the cost of mobile data and forced rivals to rethink their pricing and service models. ICICI Direct said Jio Platforms filed its draft prospectus with market regulator SEBI on June 19, 2026, and its red herring prospectus on October 14, 2026. The offering is scheduled to open on October 21 and close on October 23, 2026, with the company seeking to raise fresh capital as it expands into the next phase of digital services.
