India's software exports hit ₹7.74 lakh crore in FY26, led by Karnataka

India’s Software Technology Park units recorded estimated exports of ₹7.74 lakh crore in FY26, marking a 21.56% rise from the previous year and reaffirming the country’s position as a global IT hub, despite a dip in investment levels.

India’s Software Technology Park units posted estimated exports of ₹7.74 lakh crore in financial year 2025-26, according to data shared by the Ministry of Electronics and IT, underlining the scale of the country’s software and IT-enabled services trade even as investment levels eased. The ministry said exports rose 21.56% from ₹6.37 lakh crore in FY24, extending a steady three-year climb.

The Software Technology Park scheme is a 100% export-oriented programme designed to promote software and IT-enabled services shipments from India, with the Software Technology Parks of India offering single-window statutory clearances. According to the ministry’s figures, exports increased from ₹6.37 lakh crore in FY24 to ₹6.88 lakh crore in FY25 before reaching ₹7.74 lakh crore in FY26.

Investment reported by STP units moved in the opposite direction, falling to ₹7,362.86 crore in FY26 from ₹10,709.92 crore in FY24. Imports by these units were broadly stable over the period, at ₹9,947.47 crore in FY24, ₹9,482.27 crore in FY25 and ₹9,960.26 crore in FY26. The number of registered STP units also rose to 2,125 in FY26 from 2,059 two years earlier.

State-level data showed Karnataka remaining the biggest exporter through STPI-registered units, with ₹3,50,184.78 crore in shipments over the past three years, followed by Maharashtra at ₹1,62,594.11 crore and Telangana at ₹1,13,101.83 crore. The Hindu BusinessLine’s report on the ministry data said Karnataka and Tamil Nadu each had 391 STP units, while Maharashtra had 367 and Telangana 280. Elsewhere in the country, local reports have pointed to strong performance in hubs such as Pune and Hyderabad, reflecting how software exports remain concentrated in a handful of established centres.
