India’s pharmaceutical sector experienced a notable 12.1% growth in July, buoyed by gains in chronic-care medicines and standout performances by mid-sized companies, signalling a resilient recovery and expanding footprint in the healthcare sector.
India’s pharmaceutical market grew 12.1% in July, reaching ₹23,193 crore, as almost every major therapy posted gains, according to market research firm Pharmarack. That was up from ₹20,494 crore a year earlier and pointed to a broad-based recovery in domestic demand, with chronic-care medicines doing much of the heavy lifting.
Cardiac and anti-diabetic treatments led the advance. Pharmarack said cardiac sales rose 14.7% to ₹3,299 crore, while anti-diabetic medicines increased 17.6% to ₹2,237 crore. Sheetal Sapale, vice-president for commercial at Pharmarack, said the anti-diabetic segment was supported by the large burden of hypertension and type 2 diabetes, along with steady growth in GLP-1 drugs used to control blood sugar. Anti-infectives also gained 6.2% as the monsoon season brought more flu cases, while gastrointestinal medicines rose 9.2% to ₹2,820 crore.
Together, those four therapy areas accounted for 46.6% of the Indian pharmaceutical market in July, Pharmarack said. The market’s moving annual turnover, covering August 2025 to July 2026, grew 10.2% to ₹2.56 trillion. That fits a broader pattern of resilience in 2026: Pharmabiz reported that the market posted 13.3% value growth in June and said Pharmarack expects full-year growth of 11.3% by December 2026.
Among companies, the largest players recorded only modest monthly gains, but several mid-sized manufacturers outperformed the market. Pharmarack said Zydus grew 20.8% in July, Sun Pharma 17.8%, Torrent 16.1% and Intas 14.9%. The results come after a 2025 base that was already firm, with IBEF reporting 7.9% growth in July last year, suggesting the sector’s recent strength is being reinforced by both chronic demand and sustained product expansion.
