India’s festive hiring market accelerates with 7% surge driven by quick commerce and smaller cities in 2026

India’s festive employment opportunities grew by 7% in 2026, highlighting rapid expansion in quick commerce, e-commerce, and logistics sectors amid urban and rural shifts in job locations.

India’s festive hiring market expanded 7% in 2026, reaching 127,080 jobs, as quick commerce, e-commerce and logistics continued to drive seasonal recruitment across the country. The latest foundit Insights Tracker shows the market has grown steadily for three years, rising from 98,120 jobs in 2024 to 118,750 in 2025 and then to this year’s total, even as overall white-collar hiring fell 11% year on year in September, according to the report highlighted by Logistics Insider and summarised by Business Standard.

Quick commerce led the expansion with an 18% rise in festive hiring, while white-collar gig and freelance roles increased 15%. E-commerce added 12% more jobs and logistics and transportation grew 10%, underscoring how online shopping, faster delivery promises and longer sales periods are reshaping seasonal labour needs, according to the foundit tracker as reported by Rediff and The New Indian Express. Travel and hospitality, media and entertainment, and retail recorded more modest gains.

The geographic mix of festive hiring is also changing. Metros still accounted for 56% of white-collar festival jobs, but growth in those cities was just 3% year on year. Tier-II cities made up 27% of opportunities and posted 11% growth, while Tier-III and emerging cities, which contributed 17% of total jobs, recorded the fastest increase at 15%. Tarun Sinha, chief executive of foundit, said the festival season is reflecting a wider shift in India’s job market as hiring moves beyond traditional consumption hubs into smaller cities.

Role demand remained concentrated in frontline and execution-heavy work. Operations and fulfilment represented 23% of festive hiring, followed by sales and business development at 20%, customer service and experience at 14%, and supply chain and logistics at 12%. The market also remained heavily skewed towards early-career workers, with candidates having up to six years of experience accounting for 70% of festival jobs, including 43% for those with up to three years and 27% for those with four to six years. TeamLease Services has separately projected that temporary hiring across organised retail, e-commerce, quick commerce, logistics, FMCG and consumer durables could rise 15% to 20% this festive season, as employers seek more specialised frontline staff for an extended sales calendar.
