ICICI Prudential Life prepares for major rebrand amid Prudential restructuring

ICICI Prudential Life Insurance is set to change its name and branding as it redefines its relationship with Prudential, following a strategic deal and Prudential’s planned acquisition of Bharti Life Insurance.

ICICI Prudential Life Insurance has signed a transitional deal with Prudential IP Services as it prepares to unwind one of the more visible parts of its long-standing tie-up with the British insurer. The agreement, disclosed in a filing on August 12, comes as the Indian company works through a wider restructuring prompted by Prudential’s planned 75% purchase of Bharti Life Insurance.

The filing did not set out the financial terms, duration or full scope of the arrangement, but the context is clear enough. Prudential IP Services controls the trademark that allows ICICI Prudential Life to use the Prudential name, so any change in that relationship affects branding, customer communication and the mechanics of the company’s public identity. The transition deal is meant to smooth that handover while the business moves towards a new name.

That rebrand is already under way. According to reports from LiveMint, NDTV Profit and Business Standard, the company has approved plans to drop the Prudential reference and become ICICI Life Insurance, subject to regulatory clearance from the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India. The same reports said ICICI Prudential Life will seek to reclassify Prudential Corporation Holdings from a promoter to an investor, reflecting the governance shift triggered by Prudential’s expansion in India.

The change is also showing up at board level. NDTV Profit and other outlets reported that Naveen Tahilyani has resigned as a non-executive director, underscoring how the group is adjusting its structure ahead of the rebrand. Prudential is expected to help manage the transition, including limited use of the Prudential name and the iciciprulife.com domain, until the new identity is fully established.
