The Hinduja Group reveals a comprehensive expansion strategy in Uttar Pradesh, encompassing increased manufacturing capacity, renewable energy projects, digital infrastructure development, and healthcare initiatives, signalling a holistic approach to regional growth.
Hinduja Group is stepping up its ambitions in Uttar Pradesh with a wider plan that ties together manufacturing, renewable power, digital infrastructure and healthcare, after senior group executives met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow on 5 October 2026. According to local reports, the discussions centred on both existing operations and new investments aimed at strengthening the state’s industrial base while also supporting jobs and public services.
At the centre of the expansion is Ashok Leyland’s greenfield commercial vehicle plant in Lucknow, which was inaugurated on 9 January 2026. The facility, near Lucknow airport and spread over more than 70 acres, was designed with an annual output of about 2,500 vehicles at the outset. The group now plans to raise that to 5,000 units within the next six to seven months, extending a site that was presented at opening as a clean-mobility hub with a strong emphasis on electric vehicles and local employment.
The group is also advancing a sizeable energy-storage proposal in Mirzapur. Hinduja Renewables has been allotted the Babura/Sukhnai pumped-storage site by the Uttar Pradesh State Transformation Commission for study and implementation, with the company proposing investment of more than ₹1,000 crore. Pumped-storage projects are increasingly viewed as a way to help power systems handle the growing share of renewable electricity by storing energy when supply is plentiful and releasing it when demand rises.
Beyond steel, wheels and power, the Hinduja plan reaches into digital access and social development. Through Project GANGA and its link with OneOTT Intertainment, the group is supporting rural broadband build-out and training local people to work as Digital Service Providers. More than 3,200 applications have reportedly been received and over 1,000 people trained, with the first fibre network going live in Lambhua, Sultanpur, on 29 September 2026. The group is also working through P.D. Hinduja Hospital & Medical Research Centre on maternal and adolescent healthcare across 35 districts, using mobile health units to provide diagnostics, counselling and referrals for women and young people who may struggle to reach specialist care.
Taken together, the company’s plans suggest a broader Uttar Pradesh strategy than simple industrial expansion. Ashok Leyland’s factory, the proposed Mirzapur storage project, the digital network roll-out and the healthcare partnership all point to a model in which the Hinduja Group is seeking commercial growth alongside infrastructure, inclusion and community services. That approach also fits with its wider state interests in financial services, insurance, housing finance, lubricants and education, giving Uttar Pradesh a more prominent place in the conglomerate’s long-term portfolio.
