The investment will lift battery-pack capacity from 4 GWh to 9 GWh and fund a lithium iron phosphate cell plant at the company’s Divitipalli Giga Corridor.
Amara Raja Energy & Mobility has taken another step in building out its battery manufacturing ambitions in Telangana, with its subsidiary, Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies, approving a ₹2,320 crore capital expenditure plan on 2 November 2026. The investment is set to raise battery-pack capacity from 4 GWh to 9 GWh and to fund a new lithium iron phosphate, or LFP, cell plant at the company’s Telangana Giga Corridor site in Divitipalli, Mahbubnagar.
The project is expected to be completed within 30 months and will be financed through a mix of equity and debt, according to reports on the company’s latest decision. That approval sits within a much larger ₹9,500 crore development programme for the Giga Corridor, which the company has said is designed to support as much as 16 GWh of lithium-ion cell capacity by around FY30.
Amara Raja has already begun laying the groundwork for that expansion. In July 2026, the company commissioned a ₹500 crore Customer Qualification Plant at the same corridor, with initial capacity of 60 MWh. The facility is intended to help test cell designs and production processes before larger-scale manufacturing begins, while commercial output from the first 2 GWh Giga 1 plant is still expected to start in mid-2027.
The latest move also highlights how the group’s technology mix is evolving. According to the company’s earlier disclosures, the initial Giga 1 line will focus on nickel manganese cobalt, or NMC, chemistry, but the new LFP investment points to a broader shift towards a lower-cost battery format that is increasingly important in electric mobility and energy storage. The project also ties into Telangana’s wider industrial push, with the state government presenting the Giga Corridor as a source of large-scale manufacturing investment and jobs, while Amara Raja continues to expand its battery energy storage business alongside its cell plans.
