Gold prices in India experienced a slight easing on 13 August amid profit-taking and softer international signals, affecting major city rates and prompting cautious outlooks for investors.
Gold prices eased slightly on Thursday, 13 August, in India’s bullion market after a modest rise in the previous session, with traders citing profit-taking and softer global cues. According to News India Live, the change was small, but it was enough to push 24-carat and 22-carat rates lower in several major cities as buyers and investors continued to watch the market closely.
In Delhi, 24-carat gold was quoted at ₹1,54,150 per 10 grams, while 22-carat gold stood at ₹1,41,200. In Lucknow, the corresponding rates were ₹1,55,500 and ₹1,42,440. Patna recorded 24-carat gold at ₹1,54,400 and 22-carat gold at ₹1,41,460, while Mumbai saw prices at ₹1,54,630 and ₹1,41,640 per 10 grams, respectively, reflecting a mild pullback across key centres.
Market observers said the softer tone was linked to three broad forces: a slight easing in geopolitical tensions, which reduced demand for gold as a safe-haven asset; movements in the US dollar and crude oil prices, which often steer bullion sentiment; and profit-taking after a recent rise. Similar patterns have appeared in past periods of weakness, with Outlook Business reporting that weak overseas signals weighed on Indian gold prices in August 2023, while the World Gold Council noted that lower dollar strength and inflation expectations helped support gold at other times even as rising yields and equity markets limited gains.
For jewellery buyers, the immediate impact is a small respite rather than a major correction. For investors, the message is more cautious: gold remains sensitive to global monetary conditions, currency shifts and risk appetite, so even brief pauses in the rally can trigger short-term swings in domestic rates.
