The Hinduja Group commits Rs 2,500 crore to boost renewable energy, electric vehicles, and digital mobility in Tamil Nadu, reinforcing the state’s position as India’s manufacturing hub for electric transport.
Hinduja Group said on Thursday it will invest Rs 2,500 crore across its businesses in Tamil Nadu, extending a broader push into the state’s clean energy and mobility sectors. The plan covers renewable energy, electric mobility, automotive, financial services, energy, battery charging infrastructure and digital mobility solutions. “Our Rs 2,500 crore commitment is a statement of our confidence in Tamil Nadu and our desire to participate in its next phase of growth. With its strong industrial base, talent and renewable energy potential, Tamil Nadu is well positioned to lead India’s energy and mobility transition,” Ashok Hinduja, chairman of Hinduja Group of Companies (India), said in the statement.
The latest pledge follows a larger investment announcement made in September 2025, when Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said the group had committed Rs 7,500 crore to the state’s electric vehicle ecosystem. That plan was described as covering battery manufacturing, battery energy storage systems and charging infrastructure, with officials saying it could create more than 1,000 jobs.
Hinduja-owned Ashok Leyland has already begun work on a greenfield EV battery pack manufacturing facility at Pillaipakkam, near Chennai, according to reports in March 2026. The project, estimated at Rs 400 crore to Rs 500 crore, fits with Tamil Nadu’s electric vehicle policy and the wider national push towards battery storage and lower-emission transport. Together, the investments underline how the state is trying to position itself as a manufacturing base for the shift to electric mobility and related technologies.
