Hyderabad City Police have issued a warning about fraudsters posing as successful individuals through luxury lifestyles to deceive residents and steal money, emphasizing caution and verification to combat rising scams.
Hyderabad City Police have warned residents to be wary of fraudsters who dress up deception in the language of wealth, influence and easy money. In an advisory shared on social media, the force said some scammers rent high-end flats in gated communities, drive luxury cars, wear designer labels and post photos with prominent figures to create the impression that they are highly successful and well connected.
Police said that image is often the first step in a wider con. The suspects reportedly begin by cultivating trust through an overly friendly manner, then solicit money for supposed deals involving luxury cars, furniture, sarees, chit funds, property stakes and other schemes that promise assured returns. Once they have gathered sizeable sums, they disappear, leaving victims facing serious financial losses.
The advisory urged people not to judge credibility by appearance and not to invest on trust alone. Property owners were told to verify tenants properly, including collecting Aadhaar and PAN details, rather than chasing higher rent without paperwork. Resident welfare associations were also asked to keep an eye on new arrivals in their colonies and to avoid sharing banking information or other sensitive details with people they barely know.
The warning fits into a broader pattern of cyber and financial fraud alerts from Hyderabad police this year. In recent weeks, the force has also cautioned people about fake e-challan links, scam messages offering free cash and attempts to impersonate election officials in order to steal OTPs and banking details. Citizens who suspect fraud or spot suspicious activity have been advised to call 112 and file a complaint without delay.
