Tamil Nadu secures over ₹15,000 crore in overseas investments amid manufacturing push

Tamil Nadu is poised to announce a new wave of investment commitments worth approximately ₹15,050 crore from overseas companies, as part of a broader package of 97 pacts totalling ₹67,452 crore, aiming to create over 100,000 jobs and bolster its manufacturing sector.

Tamil Nadu is preparing to unveil a fresh wave of investment commitments worth about ₹15,050 crore from overseas companies, according to a government source, as the state stages a major conclave intended to showcase its manufacturing ambitions. The agreements are expected to form part of a wider package of 97 pacts valued at ₹67,452 crore, with the state government saying the deals should help create more than 100,000 jobs.

The tally is broader than the foreign-led projects alone and includes Indian companies as well as expansions at existing plants, the source said. Even so, the overseas portion is significant, with the planned announcements said to include around ₹500 crore from US server maker Super Micro Computer and about ₹2,000 crore from France-based construction group Saint-Gobain.

The gathering is the first major investment conclave since actor-turned-politician Joseph Vijay took office as chief minister in May, and it comes as his administration seeks to deepen Tamil Nadu’s appeal to manufacturers, technology groups and infrastructure firms. Recent deals suggest the state is leaning heavily on that strategy. In June, Larsen & Toubro signed an agreement worth ₹18,600 crore for three projects spanning data centres, electronics manufacturing and shipbuilding infrastructure, which the company said would create about 8,200 jobs.

Earlier this year, Tamil Nadu also announced investment agreements worth nearly ₹6,000 crore with Japan’s MinebeaMitsumi and Aequs Group, a Karnataka-based aerospace manufacturer, for work in semiconductors, electronics, aerospace and defence. Other recent commitments have included large shipbuilding projects and industrial investments aimed at the southern districts, underscoring the government’s effort to position the state as a hub for advanced manufacturing and heavy industry.
