E-commerce giants face rising consumer grievances in India amid crackdown on non-delivery issues

Flipkart, Amazon, and Meesho top the list of e-commerce platforms with the most complaints on India’s National Consumer Helpline in 2025, as the government intensifies efforts to improve consumer safeguards and address grievances related to non-delivery and product issues.

Flipkart, Amazon and Meesho were among the e-commerce platforms drawing the most complaints on India’s National Consumer Helpline in 2025, according to data placed before Parliament. The figures, shared by Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs BL Verma, put Flipkart at the top of the list with 133,000 complaints, followed by Amazon with 91,248 and Meesho with 29,284.

The same data showed Myntra, Netmeds, Zepto, Blinkit, Naaptol, VLE Bazaar and Nykaa rounding out the rest of the 10 most complained-about companies. Verma said the Central Consumer Protection Authority has levied penalties totalling about ₹1.12 crore on 47 e-commerce platforms, underscoring the pressure on online retailers to tighten consumer safeguards.

Non-delivery emerged as the biggest source of grievances, with 79,818 cases recorded in 2025. Other common complaints involved the wrong item being delivered, refusal of replacement or refund under company policy, damaged or defective goods, failure to return money paid, poor service, counterfeit products and unauthorised debits from consumer accounts.

The helpline has also been used as a refund recovery channel. Verma said the National Consumer Helpline facilitated refunds of more than ₹91 crore between April 25, 2025 and June 30, 2026, including over ₹63 crore linked to e-commerce disputes, through the resolution of more than 147,000 pre-litigation grievance claims. The Department of Consumer Affairs says the helpline accepts complaints in 17 languages through its toll-free number, WhatsApp, SMS, email, app and web portal, while 1,853 companies have joined its voluntary convergence programme to respond directly to cases.
