Wippi secures $1.2 million to scale screen-free AI for children in a competitive market

Bengaluru startup Wippi raises seed funding to expand its screen-free, voice-based AI devices for children, aiming to reshape early learning with innovative, multilingual content and parental controls amidst rising competition.

Wippi has raised $1.2 million in seed funding to expand its screen-free artificial intelligence products for children, as investors continue to back new ways of blending learning, play and parental control without handing kids a tablet or phone. The Bengaluru startup’s round was led by 12 Flags, with participation from Warmup Ventures, Ventana Ventures and Ruvento Ventures, according to the company.

Founded in late 2024 by Rishabh Singhi and Siddhartha Jain, Wippi is targeting children aged 4 to 10 with a physical AI companion built around audio rather than a display. The device uses story cards, voice conversations and character-driven play to keep children engaged without the endless scrolling that many parents are trying to avoid, according to the company’s website and product materials.

Wippi says the product is meant to do more than play prerecorded audio. Children can place a story card into the device, listen to a tale and then ask questions about the characters or plot. The company’s starter kit includes the device, story cards, access to stories, free delivery and a one-year warranty, while the companion app gives parents a way to track listening patterns and content engagement.

The startup says the fresh capital will support improvements to its conversational AI, hardware and firmware research and development, production and inventory, and broader commercial expansion. That matters for a hardware business, where manufacturing, quality control and stock planning require more upfront spending than a pure software product. Wippi launched commercially in June after a pilot with 100 families and now aims to sell 15,000 to 20,000 units over the next 12 months.

The company is also leaning on a content strategy that mixes Indian and global characters, including Ram, Krishna, Alice, Cinderella and Aladdin. Wippi says it supports 140-plus languages, which could help in a market where many children grow up in multilingual households. Pricing starts at ₹6,499 for the starter kit, rises to ₹9,099 for the essential kit and reaches ₹11,699 for the royal kit, with an AI subscription also planned.

Wippi enters a small but increasingly crowded category of screen-free, voice-first products for children. Similar efforts include Curio and Bondu abroad, along with Indian rivals such as MyWonder and CoRover AI’s Kanha Ji. The challenge for Wippi will be earning parental trust around safety, durability and content quality while proving that a screen-free AI device can become part of a child’s daily routine rather than another short-lived gadget.
