India’s Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation is advancing a major digital overhaul to streamline claiming processes and enhance transparency, though key features such as UPI- and ATM-linked withdrawals remain pending launch as of April 2026.
India’s Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation is pushing ahead with a broader digital overhaul aimed at making provident fund access quicker and less paperwork-heavy, but several of the most eye-catching features are still waiting to go live. According to LiveMint, the EPFO’s wider “3.0” upgrade is designed to speed up claims and improve transparency, with UPI- and ATM-linked withdrawals among the planned changes, although those facilities were not yet operational as of June 16, 2026.
One of the biggest shifts is the expansion of auto-settlement. Informalnewz said the EPFO has widened the system beyond advance withdrawals and that the processing cap for such claims has been lifted to ₹5 lakh from ₹1 lakh. ClearTax also reported that the higher ceiling is part of a broader effort to accelerate routine withdrawals, with Aadhaar and KYC-linked accounts expected to benefit most.
The organisation has also moved UAN activation to the Umang app, where Aadhaar-based face authentication is now required, according to Informalnewz. The same report said EPFO has automated PF transfers for members whose universal account numbers are linked with Aadhaar and compliant with know-your-customer rules, reducing the need for repeated employer and office approvals. That shift is meant to cut delays for workers changing jobs.
The timing of the next wave of changes remains less certain. ABP Live reported that a new mobile app for UPI-based withdrawals was expected by the end of March 2026, while the Financial Express and other outlets later said an April launch was being discussed. Meanwhile, LiveMint noted that the rollout was still pending. Informalnewz said the labour minister had indicated that claim settlement through the BHIM app was due soon, and that ATM-based PF withdrawals may follow, but clear official confirmation on launch dates and withdrawal limits is still awaited.
