Tenneco Clean Air India faces share sale sell-off despite strong earnings and growth outlook

Shares of Tenneco Clean Air India declined nearly 5% following a significant promoter stake reduction amid robust quarterly earnings and optimistic growth forecasts, highlighting investor weighing of short-term divestment versus long-term prospects.

Tenneco Clean Air India shares slipped after a sizeable block trade in which promoter Tenneco Mauritius was said to be looking to pare its holding by about 8%, or 3.2 crore shares, in a deal valued at roughly ₹1,663 crore at ₹515 apiece. The stock fell as much as 4.81% to an intraday low of ₹524 before recovering part of the loss. Trade Brains reported that the company’s market value stood at about ₹22,000 crore at the time of the move.

The share sale came even as the auto components maker has been posting stronger operating numbers. Business Standard reported that revenue in the latest quarter rose to ₹1,552.45 crore, while net profit increased to ₹166.79 crore. The Economic Times said the company’s adjusted growth was led by its Advanced Ride Technologies unit, with clean air and powertrain solutions also contributing to the improvement.

Chief executive Arvind Chandra has sounded upbeat on the outlook, saying the company expects double-digit revenue growth in FY27. According to the Economic Times, he pointed to healthy domestic demand, export gains and market-share growth in suspension products, while also acknowledging global headwinds such as geopolitical tensions and tariff uncertainty. Trade Brains also reported that the company is pursuing mergers and acquisitions and evaluating opportunities across internal combustion, hybrid and electric vehicle technologies.

Tenneco Clean Air India says it operates 12 production units across seven states and one Union Territory, giving it a footprint close to major vehicle manufacturing hubs. Trade Brains reported that the business has benefited from relatively low leverage, with a debt-to-equity ratio of 0.04x, while its return metrics remain strong. The company’s recent results and management commentary suggest that investors are weighing a near-term promoter stake sale against a longer-term growth story tied to its order book and product mix.
