AstroTalk joins India’s unicorn club with $1 billion valuation after employee buyback and rapid growth

AstroTalk, a Noida-based astrology platform, secures its place among India’s elite startups with a $1 billion valuation following a significant employee stock option buyback. The company’s revenue skyrocketz, driven by astrology consultations and a burgeoning spiritual ecommerce arm, with plans to expand offline and internationally.

AstroTalk has entered India’s unicorn ranks after an employee stock option buyback that valued the Noida-based astrology platform at $1 billion, according to the company and people familiar with the matter. More than 100 employees sold shares in the exercise, the company confirmed, though it did not disclose the size of the buyback or how many shares changed hands. That makes AstroTalk India’s 133rd unicorn.

The milestone comes as the company says it has reached an annual revenue run rate of ₹2,500 crore, helped by strong demand for its core astrology consultations and a fast-growing push into spiritual commerce. Founded in 2017 by Puneet Gupta and Anmol Jain, AstroTalk makes money by charging a fee on customer consultations with astrologers on its platform. It says it has raised $34 million from investors including Elev8 Venture Partners, Left Lane Capital and QED Investors and has served more than 4 crore users across markets including the US, the UK, Canada and Australia.

AstroTalk’s financial performance has strengthened sharply. The company said operating revenue almost doubled to ₹1,176 crore in the year ended March 2025 from ₹651 crore a year earlier, while net profit rose to ₹250 crore from ₹100 crore. Its spiritual ecommerce business, launched in November 2024 as AstroTalk Store, has become a second engine of growth. The startup says the unit generated more than ₹140 crore in operating revenue in its first 12 months and is now running at an annualised pace of ₹300 crore.

The company is now looking to extend that momentum offline and overseas. It plans to open its first experiential store in Delhi NCR in the coming months and is scouting larger sites for organised spiritual retail. It also intends to launch an international ecommerce website, beginning with the US, to reach non-resident Indians. The move fits a broader push among faith-tech companies to turn consultations into product sales, although the sector still faces supply-chain complexity and the risk of counterfeit goods. Some market trackers have also placed AstroTalk’s valuation higher, at about $1.4 billion, underscoring how quickly investor sentiment around the business has shifted.
